I hand feed our pastured pigs once a day, which becomes quit the effort when they are over that 200lb mark. The effort is worth the reward asour pigs remain very easy to work with when it is time to load out.

This is a great video to help you think through how to have your pastured pig processed.

Take a look at how our pigs are raised at CoveyChase Farm. More pastured pig videos can be found on our YouTube channel.

All of our pigs were farrowed on pasture by local farmers and arrive at CoveyChase Farm between six - eight weeks of age. After spending a couple weeks in a holding pen learning about electric fencing, and about Farmer John, they will move to pasture where they will live the rest of their lives. These pigs will receive no medications or hormones and will have exceptional flavor due to their access to sunshine, fresh air, grasses and exercise!

We use Summit Meat Processing to provide our custom pig processing and you will be able to customize your processing selection by downloading and completing the processing cut sheet below. A month before the processing date I will be in contact to talk through the cut sheet (see the video below from the Bearded Butchers on how to have your pasture raised pig processed). Also, once you complete the cut-sheet I handle everything else from communicating with the processor to delivering to your door step.

To store your meat you will need a freezer. A good rule of thumb is that 30 pounds of meat requires 1 cubic feet of freezer space.

What can you expect:

  • Pigs are ready for slaughter at approximately 275lbs - 300lbs.

  • Actual take home meat will be approximately 140lbs for a whole pig, but varies based on evaporative loss and waste during the butcher process along with your choice of cuts (see below).

  • PRICING EXAMPLE: You only pay for the amount of meat you receive PLUS $2.00 per pound for any meat smoked and/or cured and $0.65 per pound for any meat sliced. Let’s assume you receive 140lbs of pork and you had the two hams cured and the pork belly made into cured/sliced bacon.

    • 140lbs delivered meat X $5.75 per pound = $805.00

    • 56lbs of cured/smoked X $2.00 per pound = $112.00

    • 18lbs of bacon sliced X $0.65 per pound = $11.70

    • Total Amount Due = $928.70 (divide by two for a half share)

Why price in this manner? Some people will prefer a “fresh” pig, which means none of it was cured, smoked and/or sliced or they may want the entire pig made into sausage (included in the $5.25/pound price) thus only having to pay $805.00 in the above example.

Your freezer pork will be delivered to your house (up to 75 miles) or you can pick-up directly from the farm.

To place an order: Hit the “pork share reservation” above and I will send out an electronic invoice for the deposit as available.
